Appreciating the present

“Happiness, not in another place but this place…not for another hour, but this hour.” Walt Whitman

I walk by this old train station every day without really noticing it. This morning the blue sky, trees leafing out and a new paint job on the building caused me to notice and appreciate the intricate plaster castings on the building. I spend a lot of time thinking about the future and often forget to appreciate the things and people right in front of me.

Sunset Station, built in 1902, stopped functioning as a train station in 1998. The building is now rented out for events.

Do you know your Life Path Number?

Yellowstone National Park, Photography by Debbie Sultemeier

Last year I began worrying that I hadn’t yet found my life purpose so I enrolled in a free email class on finding your purpose on the website “The Diary of an Empath”. (I highly recommend doing the class.) One of our first assignments was to calculate our Life Path Number.

Your Life Path Number is calculated by adding together the numbers in your birth date until you have a single digit or 11. So my birthday is June 13, 1962 which calculates to 0+6+1+3+1+9+6+2 = 28. Then you add those together 2+8 = 10. And you end up with 1+0 = 1. So my Life Path Number is 1. Then you can look on a website such as this one from Felicia Bender to read a description of your Life Path Number.

After I determined my Life Path Number I calculated the numbers for family members and friends. I found the numbers to be surprisingly accurate for their personalities and career choices. Many of my family members work or volunteer as teachers and their Life Path Numbers all corresponded to either the Teacher or Nurturer type.

I’m still searching for my life purpose but learning my Life Path Number helped me become more aware of my personal strengths and weaknesses. If you found it useful to learn your Life Path Number then you may want to calculate other numbers such as your Personality Number and your Heart’s Desire/Soul Urge number.

Yoga Candle

“Prayer is when you talk to God; Meditation is when you listen to God.” by Diana Robinson

I did a relaxing yin yoga class this morning with teacher Cristina at Southtown Yoga Loft and she recited this quote. My prayers are usually requests for something so this quote reminds me to also take time for quiet and gratitude.

I’ve been making personalized soy wax candles for friends and family. This candle for Cristina contains lemongrass essential oil. I infused the soy wax overnight with turmeric root powder for the cheerful yellow color. The square mason jar is from AAA Candle.

The Journey Begins

San Antonio sunset 2

Hello.  I created this blog to share my creativity, inspiration, spiritual musings and interesting discoveries.  I split my time between a high-rise building in downtown San Antonio, Texas, and a house in the country near Fredericksburg, Texas.  My interests include making soap and bath and body items;  greeting cards and paper crafts;  candle making; yoga; baking bread; listening to music and playing my flute; attending musicals and plays; travel and restaurants; and bee keeping.  I live with my husband and dog Hannah and I have two Millenial children.

Please feel free to share your thoughts and inspirations with me.
